I am working on a problem that I inherited from another tech, and I'm stumped. This clone PC's floppy drive doesn't work. Worse yet, if you try to read a disk in its drive, it will make the disk unusable: other, working drives will tell you that the floppy is unformatted and unformattable.

The machine is less than one year old. I have replaced the drive and the drive cable. Keying is correct on both ends of the cable. I have disabled and re-enabled the FDD controller in the BIOS. I am reaching the end of my technical expertise here and need help getting to the bottom of this.

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Try using an off board PCI or ISA floppy controller if you can find one. If it still destroys disks at least you will know it is not the controller on the mainboard.
