originally posted to plextor/support, who don't seem fit to respond at all! to whom it may concern, this is the 2nd time i'm writing, as i haven't heard boo regarding my 1st email, and i'm getting pretty angry. i've wasted too many cd's that i'm sure you're not gonna pay for, the least you could do is respond. this is the message i'm getting everytime i try to burn a cd in cd-architect(sonic foundry). it passes the test and then this happens a minute or so into the burning process. it pretty much seems to fail with every app i've tried using to burn an audio(dao) cd, ie., clean, wavelab. i've managed to get 2 copies using sek'd red roaster, though i've wasted 4 as well. the 1st message i get from red roaster, the 2nd from cd architect. the drive is not ready status: 00040200 command: 2a 00 ff ff ff 6a 00 00 1b 00 sense: 02 04 01 info: 00 00 00 00 specific: 00 00 a8 e0 88 00 74 15 71 02 or drive state has changed. a power on reset or bus reset has occurred. status: 00040000 command: 2a 00 ff ff ff 6a 00 00 1b 00 sense: 06 29 00 info: 00 00 00 00 specific: 08 d4 88 00 74 f5 42 02 i've updated the aspi layer, tried terminating and un-terminating my d:\(audio) drive, as it's the last in it's chain. i make sure there are no apps running in the background. i've tried pretty much everything under the sun, and i'm at a loss. what are the above messages specifically trying to say? what have i missed? has anyone encountered this scenario that managed to find a solution. my system: P III 450 tekram u/w scsi card(390) 2 u/w hd's(seagate & quantum) plexwriter 4/12 internal 128 mb's sdram other than the problem discribed above, the plextor works fine. i have no probs burning cd's to backup files, or copy images, even of audio cds, using apps like nero, disc juggler, etc. it's just dao i'm troubles with. please respond asap. i can't afford to blow any more cd's. i have to say, for a company(plextor) that seems to get so many recommendations, i'm extremely disappointed with their seemming lack of response. it was a gift from my mother, in the states, and i'll be damned if i'm gonna call long distance from australia! thanx, michael lawrence |

Well, I can't say I have a Plextor burner or that I have used cd-architect or done much dao, but the drive not ready I have dealt with. Not sure exactly which one or all, but the following is what I did when the problem disappeared. first and foremost...Have you upgraded to the latest firmware? Try unchecking "Disconnect" in Device Manager. Also "Auto Insert Notification" Set your vcache in the system ini. Originally I set it at: minfilecache=512 maxfilecache=4096 I have since played around with the figures quite a bit and the problem has not returned. I think the important part here, is setting limits. Vcache seems to be a controversial subject with Win98. I haven't come to a final conclusion yet with 128M EDO. I have heard that some have to disable ultra dma in setup. This had NO affect whatsoever for me. Ultra dma causes NO problems. Also, excellent resource is the newsgroups. alt.comp.periphs.cdr, alt.cd-rom, comp.publish.cdrom.hardware, and there are a few others too. Hope this might possibly help. |
