I want to scan a picture but I keep getting a message saying "Fail to adjust to an adecuate color balance value." When I checked the device manager, the scanner wasn't lsted under imaging devices.

Might want to try reinstalling it by uninstalling any software and then reinstalling the scanner software.

Did a bit of searching and that error message seems to lean toward scanner software problems.

Can you scan with an image program such as import from scanner.

Have seen some scanners that Windows can't see when on usb but work fine on parallel port. If you have a parallel cable maybe try it (even borrow the printer cable).
