I recently reloaded win 98 on my computer as it was taking too long to run any programs and now it keeps freezing up on start up. It reloaded up okay with no problems but when I restsrted the pc it keeps stopping at the win 98 screen. Could it be the hard drive? as this was very very slow before. Thanks for any help given. |

Do you see the bar under the win98 screen scroll? If so it's not stopping, it's trying to load a device/devices that was not installed at first load up. Perhaps a network card. |

Press F8 before the windows splash screen and boot up into safe mode if you can. From there you can remove any botched drivers or programs that might be causing the lock up. |

I will give it a go. Is it possible that it is the hard drive that is the problem. Thanks for all your help E.S |

I wouldn't consider the drive until all other possibilities are ruled out. |
