I am facing a strange problem with my cd writer.before I describe my problem this is my configuration. Amd Athlon XP 1800+, 256MB DDR ram (266 mhz)Geforce4 MX440-se (asus v8170 magic) AGP card, MSI KT4V (MS-6712 v1.x) motherboard, 40GB 7200 rpm hardisk (Samsung SP4002H) and odyssey 350w power supply. I am using windows98 and windows xp pro. My problem is that whenever I switch on the pc the cd writer (SONY CD-RW CRX175A1) automatically ejecting and closing with full force, after booting to OS the drive stays opened and when we try close the drive it ejects automatically. I removed the IDE cable from the drive, but the problem is still there. Is there any problem with my power supply or with my cd writer? if there is problem with my writer which brand gives trouble free working. Please give me a reply. From sabir |

I have seen this a couple times and it is usually a timeing/switch error in the CDRW, notably when the drive is not attached to the ide ribbon cable. Time for a new CDRW if you are not familiar with retiming the drive. I have had good luck with Mitsumi and Liteon CDRW's as a low cost replacement. A good high end CDRW would be a Plextor. |
