I get an error on my Epson 580 telling me that an unknown error has occurred, to unplug my printer and contact a service centre. The printer initialises when it's plugged in, suggesting it's powering up OK, but still gives the same error message. Any ideas before I buy a new printer?

Ah, Epson error messages are cryptic, It may not even be a printer error but a software or driver error, thus the unknown. Have you tried removing the driver from windows and have it redetect?
