I have a Unisys Aquanta DL system, with a phoenixbios, within win95 CDROM was found, I tried to install win2000 from the cd when booting up the computer, it doesnt ask me to press any key and boot from CDROM, I go into the bios where I set the CDROM as a secondary master and save changes then when I go back into bios the changes havent saved and the CD has gone again. The bios is not password protected. Any ideas before it flies out the window.

Setting the cdrom as secondary master in bios doesn't actually set it as master. It physically has to be connected as secondary master and jumpered accordingly, than you have to go into bios and select boot sequence to cdrom first floppy second hard drive third etc.

I have physically connected the cdrom to the second ide port and it has power through P3, is this right what do you mean by jumpered. I have selected it to boot from CDROM in the boot order but it still doesnt work. Windows has no problem locating the CDROM and runs anything fine its just the bios wont let me boot from the cdrom.

On atapi cdroms there is a jumper to select whether it will be a master or slave or in some cases cable select in relation to other devices that may also reside on the same IDE channel.

Thanks for your E.S. Jumpered it so it found it as a master but it would only install so much of it before it found a CDROM error, then it found the rest when it was setup as a slave (I am confused) anyway its ok now thanks alot for your help.

I have had my computer in storage for a period of time and have forgotten what my administrator password was. I was going to try and use my disks to restart again, but cannot find them. My system is W2k prof. Is there a way i can reset my password and start using my puter again ?
