I have an AMD XP2600, Geforce FX 5600 and a Gigabyte KT 400 motherboard. The thing is, when I turn on the machine, the fans start up, the Drives start up (bar the hard drive now) but I don't get any beeps and nothing comes up, not even the keyboard lights up. I changed the motherboard to an ASRock K7S8X and I now have the same problem. I'm assuming that if the graphics card was ruined, it would still beep and I'd still get lights on the keyboard. I'd assume the same for every other piece of hardware, but I don't get anything. Please can anyone help?

Since you have already swapped motherboards it's time to suspect the CPU is damaged, with a bad video card or memory you should get bios beep error codes but since you are not getting at least a that the computer isn't getting as far as the CPU check at startup.

It seems that a CPU change has done no good. I swapped it for an XP 2400, and the same happens. The Hard Drive thing is worrying though. The disc only spins when it's not connected to the motherboard through the IDE cable. Any more suggestions?

Hmmm, new mainboard and cpu and still no P.O.S.T. Remove all non essential components such as hard drives, floppy drive, CDRom, etc. If none of these are causing the issue, try a new power supply. Yes, the hard drive not spinning up when connected to the mainboard should be a clue.
