Memory for presario 1200

I have a presario k62-500 with 64Mb on board, recently I bought 256 Mb, but it reconized only 128, what can I do? Itīs a presario 1200 12xl120

Some Compaq's had memory limitations built into the system for stability reasons so it looks like yours can only take a 128 meg stick in each slot. Another cause of this 256 being seen as 128 is the density of each chip on the stick. Some legacy systems do not like high density ram.
