My Dad has a Dell Pentium III with Windows XP. He's used it with no problems for a few years. Today when he went to start it up, it goes through the normal routines, plays the "Windows startup theme" then shows the taskbar and start button for about 3 seconds, then goes to blue screen. No error messages appear at all. I've instructed him over the phone to press F8 for safe mode, but that is not working either (or his timing is wrong.. but he's tried several times).

Any ideas?

A blues screen with no error message. HMMM, sounds as if something is corrupted perhaps in the system itself and not so much a driver as safe mode doesn't appear to work either. If he has the cd have him boot from the disk and run chkdsk or filechk.

On further review of your post it would appear that Dell might be infected with a virus.
