Hi ... I have a Dell with windows 98 second edition. It seems that my little computer icons that should "talk" to each other will stop in the middle of things. I have contacted my ISP and they claim that the problem is not on their end. Tuesday evening of this past week, they were down due to a power outage, and as soon as I was able to get back on line this started. I remain connected, but it seems as if the system stalls out, for as soon as they begin to blink again,I can continue on. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.Thank you |

The chances of issues on your isp's end are minimal. More than likely the timeouts are due to internet traffic, DDOS attacks and flooded gateway routers. Since you use windows 98SE open a DOS box and ping an internet address you are familiar with (such as www.hardwarehell.com) and check the round trip time in milliseconds at different times. This will give you some insight as to the amount of internet traffic in your area. |
