Can a failing power supply affect the burnig process on a CD-RW? My new CD-RW drive started having repeated burn errors -- then was slow at reading a CD -- then both the CD-RW and CD-ROM drives quit recognizing autorun. This all occured in a 6 hour period. It was working fine before then. This machine runs 24/7. I have not checked the +5V and +12V yet. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this problem and if it was power supply related. Next, I'd have to consider the IDE controler or a cooling problem |

The fact that both drives are affected would lead me more towards the IDE controller. The power derived from the PSU 12V and 5V would probably have an affect on the overall system but I would still check the rails anyway. |

I beleive that corrupted burning software somehow caused the symptoms. After powering off then back on the drives worked but would still not burn. After reinstalling the software, it now works. But why that would effect both drives, I'm lost there -- I've never heard of a tempoary problem with an IDE controler driver... It's either corrupt or not. This may be one of those problems that has no answer. But it works now. Thanks. |
