I have a mobo that supports agp 2.0 4x, my video card is Radeon 9600 pro 8x, I understand the 4x/8x refers to voltage among other things, the card works, but am I risking damage to card or mobo? Can BIOS upgrade support 8x from 4x or is it a manufacturer job? |

The AGP spec is determined by the mainboards Chipset so if a mainboard only supports 2X or 4X AGP thats its limitation. As far as the 8X compliant Video card working in the 4X slot now as it is just shows that it is backward compatable with your particular chipset and mainboard and the the voltage supplied. So not to worry as it gives you some upgrade path for processor and mainboard later on. (at least until PCI Xpress arrives anyway) |
