My computer: An AMD Athlon XP 2500+ with 1GB of DDR RAM, a 40 GB HDD and an Nvidia GeForceFX 5200 continually shuts down 5 minutes after booting up. After it shuts down, to get it to restart I have to shut off the power supply and turn in back on. Only then will the computer turn on again. I have replaced most of the hardware but nothing seems to have helped the problem. Any ideas on what my problem might be? |

Two things come to mind for both of you, make sure your power supply is up to the task of providing the needed amperage to the 12 and 5 volt lines.I have a 400watt psu that delivers 35amps at 5 volts and 15amps at 12 volts. The 12 volt line is nominal at 12amps usually so anything over is better. The 5 volt line is a little pickier so a nominal 25 amps say and anything over is better. Also make sure your wattage for your power supply is not a max rating as most cheap "included with the case" type power supplys are. |
