I turned off my 16 month old DELL Dimension 4500 the other night. When I went to restart it, I pushed the power button, which lit up, but nothing else happened. No beeps, no fan noises, nothing. I have to hold the power button down for a few seconds to get the light to turn off. Any ideas? |

Hi Lisa and welcome to Hardware Hell. Generally a complete power failure is caused by the power supply but other components can cause it as well. Most computer shops will have a PSU tester and they will test the power supply for free providing it is a standard ATX and not a DELL Proprietary Supply. If the PSU is good than you are probably looking at replcement of the mainboard/CPU. |

Thanks ES. Took it to a local shop and they believe it is the DELL proprietary power supply. They are going to test and if that's the problem, I will probably have them move everything over to a new case so I don't have to pay for a DELL supply. |

Hi all, Iam trying to load a 120gbt Maxtor in place of a 40gbt Maxtor into a Dell 2400. I have gone thru all the setup procedures and the HDD is recognised as the Primary Drive. However the thing still won't boot up' Keeps telling me to F1 for reboot or F2 for Setup. Can anyone assist? |
