i had the same situation happen to me with a customer's laptop: at her house, i swapped out a 14.4 modem for a 56k and everything was good. unfortunately, it needed to come back to "the shop" for serious software/OS attention. when i finally plugged it in, the thing wouldn't boot -- just the two lights on, nothing else. my heart stopped! i took the battery out, and the lights were still on. i unplugged the AC adapter, and the lights were still on! i ended up pulling out the modem, the hard drive, and the floppy drive, but still the lights stayed on -- we're talking a good half-hour with no power supply, here. i finally unplugged the mouse in despair and the lights winked out. i put it all back together and the machine booted like nothing happened. go figure. |
