Sounds like the machines have some drive interpolation software installed. What that does is when the OS ( ie DOS ) cannot understand the physical geometry of the hard disk drive, this interpolation software "tricks" it into understanding it. I know that's a kinda vague explanation but...This software is located I believe in the MBR of the drive, so it's not like a program you could see with a DIR command. Did this help ?

Can I get more info please?

What size and brand are the new hard drives?

Does your system bios detect them correctly?

Do you see a drive overlay loading at first?

Also try installing the drive overlay software for the drive, it will format the drive and make it boot-able for you. Tell me the make of drive and I can tell you what overlay software to try.

Also, you may see this message if you didnt make a partition active.

or if you did not sys the drive.
