The beginning: My Asus A7V133 PC133/c133 computer runing windows 2000 pro began to freeze. This is very unusual. It has given us very little trouble in four years. I tried to do a disk scan on it and DiskScan said it could not initialize the drive. That indicated (to me) my drive was dying. I ordered a new drive and tried to install it. I removed the old drive and the computer did not recognize it. It could have been a jumper problem, being a Western Digital. I fixed that so that on boot up the drive was recognized, but then I started to have problems with the monitor. On boot up the monitor did not automatically come on. I could push the button on some boot ups and see the screen, on other boot ups, I could not. Now I only get the video error message we get when the monitor is not connected. Also, the last time I was able to get the HD and the CD to recognize, but the computer would not recognize the Windows 2000 CD in my drive. It kept asking for a boot disk.

I am thinking that my problem is that I don't have a driver for the monitor. (Some thought the ribon was the problem, but I replaced that and it did not make any difference.) I wonder if I could net work into the problematic computer with my laptop. I have no idea how to do that. Does any one have a better battle plan/idea? (No, I can't take it to my local computer store. I don't have a job. I don't have money for that.)

Oh, I almost forgot. I tried putting the old drive back in and the computer acts as if it is not there.

Most likely not a driver issue as you don't have any video at power up. Drivers are not needed as VESA is used during P.O.S.T. In a previous post on the forum I noticed you were conveying the need to reseat all peripherals. Since I assume that you have done this than the next logical step is try a different video card if possible or swap monitors. The A7V133 board can be very picky about hard drives for sure. Also the need for a controller card might be in order as your IDE controller may have been compromised by a defective hard drive.
