Hi all,
I have a PC that I built about 3 months ago and all of suddenly it won’t power on. For example, no fan activity, HDD or lights except a blinking led power light on the front of the PC case.

Based on this and the fact the PC died once on boot up caused me to beleive the power supply went bad. As a result, I replaced it with a new one and double checked all the connections. After installing the new power supply I received the same problem. The machine does not power up, no fans / lights, except for the front case led power lights that blinks a slow on/off.

I’m really stuck on what to do next to solve this problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If the LED light flashes on and off than there is some activity. Try clearing the CMOS, if that doesn't work try a different mainboard.

FYI: I reseted the CMOS and nothing improved. So I started removing parts until I narrowed the problem down to the CPU, motherboard and RAM as problem areas. Since I couldn't test these components on another PC I had to take it into the the shop. The end result was that I needed a new motherboard.

Thanks for your help all

hi all, i have a computer intel 440 chipset with 2ISA, 4PCI and 1 AGP slots, both slot1 and socket370 are available. Currntly a slot 1 PII 400 CPU is used. it had suddenly started giving error "CMOS checksum error" and searches only for the floppy boot record. I chekd the cmos battery. replcd with new one as well.
cant find any cmos reset jumper, but removing battery made no success. There is no brand or model on any place of the motherboard]
Del, F2, Esc, F10 keys did not open the bios setup menu.

The BIOS chip is a Synchmos having award sticker with following.
Award PCI/PNP 686
267606923

I have chkd RAM, VGA card, sound card, modem by replacing with alternatives but no success. anyway the checksum error indicates either bios is corrupted etc etc.
Can anyone letme know how to find the board brand and model so that i can try rewriting the BIOS..??
