I'm trying to replace the keyboard on my Gateway laptop (Solo 5150). I've done this before with other laptops by removing the Bezel - but it appears to me that the keyboard must be removed in some other manner. Gateway doesn't have any documentation on how to replace the keyboard on this particular model - and their tech support is less then helpful (they do a search on their own website - and come up with the same answer, that there is no documentation available). Anyone familiar with the how to? |

I just refurbished a Solo 5150, which included figuring out how to replace the keyboard. What I did: 1) Remove the 2 screws from the bottom that hold the monitor hinge cover down. 2) Open the monitor so it lays flat. 3) Pop the hinge cover up to give you some leeway with the keyboard. 4) The Solo 5150 locks to the chassis down by the keypad (see: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/SHARED/Keyboard.shtml ) 5) With a small, flathead screwdriver, pry the edge of the keyboard forward, so you are in effect sliding the keyboard toward the monitor, away from the mousepad. 6) Once the edges are free from the case, flip the keyboard up, and you can unhook the ribbon cable from the motherboard. Hope that helps! |
