depends on the controller, i have an 8gb drive that auto recognizes which mode to use. i also have an ibm drive that i had to disable the udma66. also it depends on the motherboard, too. read the faqs at the web site of the manufacterer of the drive and the motherboard.

Many HD maker's have a software util that you need to download and run onc you have installed and setup the hard drive.

These utils disable the UDMA 66, usually the same util will re-enable it if needs be. However, you usually only need to do this if you have problems.

I would just hook it up and try to have your bios auto detect it. You wont hurt the drive.
