Got everything connected, installed drivers. Included utility software checks read/write rates, shows speeds well in excess that required by drive.

Easy CD creator correctly id's drive but neither win98 nor easy cd creator can access it. W98 says"drive not ready"

any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Ive seen this caused by a loose IDE cable connection, and or loose power cable connection. Might wanna double check them.

I had this problem with a Yamaha. I updated the firmware and then it worked for the most part. Started seeing the error message again and ended up sending it back for a replacement. Have never seen that message again. Did you check the support site of whomever made it?
