I'm a little confused, do I need to specify two different drives for a new computer, or are they the same? Also, what's the advantages of the DVD in a home computer, besides playing movies and the like? |

dvd ram is re-writeable. the normal dvd is not writeable. dvd ram drives are still expensive. so, it's your choice. price vs hardware and setup. |

A DVD-ROM holds a lot more data than a CD-ROM. That's why it's a good idea to specify DVD when buying a new computer. Most DVD-ROMs will read CD's too, which is a real plus. And they are pretty cheap now, about $75-100.
A CD-R/W will allow you to create CDs yourself. It's a great feature to have for backups, making Audio CD's of all those cool MP3's you downloaded, and trading software back and forth with your friends. CD-R/W's will hold up to 640 MB of data or 80 minutes of music.
DVD-RAM is a new form of DVD that is writeable. Yes, it's expensive. Steer clear for now... |
