I usually have about 15 icons on my desktop for convenient access to programs but the other day I suddenly had a full screen on about 100. These were duplicates and some were copy 5 of the original shortcut. I started deleting them but as fast as I could delete them they produced more duplicates. I still have a screen full shortcut icons some are named "copy 175 of (name of original shortcut)"
How on earth can I get sid of these pests.

Thanks for the thought but it is not a virus. Must be a damaged system file but System File Checker says all files OK. No info on Microsofts knowledge base either but I cant believe I am the only person to get this problem. Anyway I ended up formating and re-installing windows.
