I have been given a Compaq 386 running windows 3.1 to see if I can get it going. It boots OK but says there is error in Autoexec.bat file. I can run windows by changing directory from C:\ to c:\windows then typing win at the prompt. But there is a way of doing this from the Autoexec.bat and/or Config.sys files but I cant remember how. Can anyone help please, Thanks, Rob |

hi if i remember correctly it's the autoexec.bat file. try adding c:\win or c:\windows\win as your last entry |

Can you post your autoexec.bat file here with copy and paste? Vera is correct, sort of. It would be better to add a PATH C:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM line to the .bat file before the WIN command line, though. Give me more info about the system (i.e. drives installed, memory, expansion cards installed, etc.) and I will provide you with an autoexec.bat file. |
