I have reinstalled my system and I am trying to install an OLD HP 5P scanner. I got it working prior to my reinstall and I can't remember how I got it to work. It is a SCSI scanner and I have the software downloaded from HP. I am connecting it via SCSI-USB cable by adaptec, which worked fine last time.
Upon boot-up, I get asked to install drivers for the HP C5110A USB Device. I direct it to the HP deskscan software that I downloaded and it finds an appropriate file, but then it starts asking for a bunch of *.vxd drivers. I found forum posts and I know that these files are located in *.cab files on my old WIN98 CD, but I cannot get my W2K installer to search in the cab files. Is there a way to get it to look in those files without having to unzip every cab file?

Or is there a site that I can download these files?

THanks,
JErold

i usually add the contents of the winxx cab folder, meaning all the cabs, onto my harddrive in a holding folder for that purpose. saves me grief if i can't access the cdrom drive, or if i don't want to grab the disk every time. the thing you can do, is extract the contents of the hp .exe, and it will save it to a folder on say, your desktop, and then you can also have it search there, if need be, before you try to install it. i use winrar to do this. just tell win 98; 2k to go to those locations, or even the winnt directory, if no luck, and then it'll almost for sure do it. but tell it to go to the cd>>>>>>>> hp >>winxx; winnt(usually goes by i386) cabs folder >>>>>winxx; winnt directory, if nothing else, in that order, it may popup a box asking you use the new file, or keep the old one as it's newer already, i usually go with the keep option, if it's newer.

if you need the files, if i have them, you're welcome to them. although i don't have a usb scanner. i may have some files. e-mail me with a list. i hope this isn't confusing, it may be. i just re-read it. heh.

Heh, Win, I had to reread your post a few times and follow the arrows any Idea where XP stashes away drivers? I'm upgrading tomorrow.

E.S.,
There is a Driver.zip file (74902 KB)in the I386 folder.
Looks like the drivers aren't hidden in a .cab file this time.
