Hi,I've been having this problem for a while where the speaker icon would disappear from my taskbar and I can't use any audio applications or hear any sounds. When I check under System, the Soundblaster option is no longer available for selection for the sound device. I usually have to reinstall Soundblaster with the driver downloaded from the Creative site about twice before the speaker icon is restored and Soundblaster appears in the Device Manager. I'm using Soundblaster 16. Anyone know whether this is a software problem or is my computer just wonky? Thanks. |

Hi, I've shared a similar experience before. Unfortunately, I was not using the Sound Blaster 16... I run Windows98 SE and WindowsXP Professional, and I can tell you something you may find interesting... on Windows98 my modem does not work, it tells me the drivers for it are incorrect, and may not work properly. Which is funny because it is the CD that came with it. Anyhow, my sound card does not work... I do not get the icon on the system tray, and therefore have no sound. I went into [My Computer - Control Panel - System - {Device Manager Tab}] And was forced to disable my sound card from the hardware profile. Any time it tried to play sound, the computer would freeze. I tried reinstalling the drivers for it, but it had no effect. However when I switch hard drives to use WindowsXP, both my modem and sound card work like contstruction men getting paid $100/hr. Indeed it is strange. As for your sound blaster, it could be just getting old and may need to be replaced... SB16 is pretty old, no offsense. Go to www.TigerDirect.com and you'll faint when you see what they have - and what they have it for. I'm not saying buy a new one, that's your only option... but to me it sounds pretty old, and that's just my opinion... hope I helped some! |
