HI,
I have a homebuilt system - an AMD 1700 XP, with 512 Ram on a Shuttle AK35GTR motherboard (assembled & tested by Multi-Wave) with Windows 2000. Here's my problem. The other day I started my computer and it took a few minutes to get to the password entry screen, after that it takes another few minutes to get to the desktop. When it finally gets there, there are no icons except for the start and others at the bottom of the screen but I do see my wallpaper and the cursor. Eventhough the start icon is there I can't click on it - the cursor turns into the hourglass. It even takes a while to shutdown when I hit ctrl-alt-delete. I can however get in and out of the BIOS no problem before startup. I guess something is slowing it down but I'm not sure what it is. It was working fine the previous times I've used it & didn't install anything new to cause any problems. How do get my system back to normal? Do I have to reload the OS and start over again? Will I lose my files? Will a boot disk help? I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. |

Doing a cleanboot would be a good place to start tracking the source of problems.

hey stewart, u dont actually need to start from scratch, u could actually try doing a system restore, the option which is available when u boot up from win 2000 os cd |
