hi,
I have a PC with Windows 2000 and I'm having problems with getting a modem to work. I've tried a few different new modems and for each the install wizard gives me a message saying that the "data is invalid." I've tried downloaded drivers from the manufactures but the problem persists. Now when I took it to a reputable computer repair shop the tech encountered the same problem. He thinks its something in Windows 2000 that's causing the problem - he checked the Microsoft website but there wasn't anything there that could help. I tried a clean install like he said but that didn't help either. So has anyone had the same problem and if so can you offer any help? Thanks.

possibly change the slot the card is in if it's PNP. see if 2k detects it, or else you may have to try changing a bios setting either for the irq, or the com (serial) port.
