I currently have no sound coming from my speakers and am wondering if this sounds like I need a new sound card. My speakers work fine, hooked up the CD player to them and they playback perfectly. However I get no sound coming from my computer sound files. My PC has Windows98SE with the VIA PCI Audio Controller (WDM) sound card on it. I have gone through all of the sound card troubleshooting steps, including checking the sound card by control panel\system\device manager, and it says that it is working properly. The only thing that has me stumped is that *sometimes* on a certain site I will get sound from the music playing in the background, but will get no sound from everything else. Also, when going through the windows help section, I was prompted to click on a couple of short sound files, I believe to test the sound, and one did work but the others came up with no sound and an error message. So I guess my question is, does this sound like I need a new sound card? |

If you have the little yellow speaker down by the clock, double click on it and check to make sure there is nothing muted and all the volume controls are turned up all the way. |

Have you tried removing the sound card from device manager and reinstalling the drivers? |
