Have two floppies: (1) Driver disc for external cdrom (Bakpak 8X) and (2) windows 98se setup boot disc. Which files (there are about 20 on the Bakpak disc) do I need to transfer to the win setup disc? (2) I need the exact commands and syntax to do this! I know various files (ie-MSCDEX etc) need top be transferred..but what commands/syntax are used to do this?) Also--do I need to creat a Config.sys and Autoexec.bat file on the win98 setup disc etc. Thanx. |

Could you explain what you are trying to do? I'm a little confused on what you are asking. A win98 boot disk already has an autoexec.bat and config.sys file. |

OK I have two floppies: First is win98se setup boot disc....second floppy is the driver disc for an external cdrom. I need to install Win98se on a totally blank hardrive (which has been fdisked and formatted). The cdrom-being external-will not work unles/until i install it on the computer (with the blank hardrive). so--I need to install the cdrom drivers first and then install win98se. I need to know the commands (and syntax for same) to move the needed driver files from the cdrom driver disc to the win98se setup boot disc...so that the external cdrom will accept and run the win98se setup cdrom (for installation on the computer). My problem is that the computer does not have an internal cdrom..I must use and external cdrom to do a fresh install of windows on a computer with no operating system/drivers etc. yet installed. thanx. |

You can bootup on the hardrive with cdrom support by copying the bootdisk files to the hard drive. This will make it easier to work with. Then you can copy whatever files you need. To copy the bootup files to the hard drive: At the A prompt type COPY *.* C:\ press enter (the *.* will copy all files from the floppy disk to the hard drive. DO NOT copy over any files that are already on the hard drive. The computer will ask. To copy one file from the floppy to the hard drive type (example) COPY Autoexec.bat C:\ and press enter. To view what's on the floppy disk or hardrive type DIR at the A prompt or C prompt and press enter. To view what's in a folder or directory type CD then the name of the directory and press enter. Example: CD Windows To edit the autoexec.bat or the config.sys, at the A prompt type EDIT C:\Autoexec.bat press enter. Same for the config.sys. If you are going to edit the files on the floppy disk, at the A prompt type EDIT Autoexec.bat One last thing, to change from the floppy drive to the hard drive and back at the A prompt type C:\ press enter. At the C prompt type A:\ press enter I hope this is not to confusing. Good luck |
