System information not working under xp

My problem is that when i try to open system information it shows like this
"Can’t collect information, cannot access the windows management instrumentation
software. Windows management files may be moved or missing”. How do I repair
this problem. I have checked the system file using sfc tool. My os is windows xp pro with
Service pack 1 installed.please help me.

The only way to repair this is to re-install XP pro. You should not have to delete anything just boot from the cd and use the *SECOND* repair option not the command console option unless you have about four hours of your time to spare and an extra computer you can get online with. The repair might require you to reinstall any service packs but should save all of your data.
