Hi:

I wanted to clean my temporary files from my hard drive so I followed the directions on the Hardware Hell directory to clean my temporary files and cookies from Window's 98. I entered this into Dos under the autoexec:

@ECHO OFF
rem - By Windows Setup - c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /D:aspicd0 /M:12 /L:I
PATH=%PATH%;
if exist c:\windows\smartdrv.exe c:\windows\smartdrv.exe 2048 16
DELTREE /y c:\windows\history\*.* > NUL
DELTREE /y c:\windows\tempor~1\*.* > NUL
DELTREE /y c:\windows\temp\*.* > NUL
DELTREE /y c:\windows\cookies\*.* > NUL
DELTREE /y c:\windows\applic~1\micros~1\office\recent\*.* > NUL
DELTREE /y c:\windows\ShellIconCache

Now my computer will not reboot, it is stuck on the large Windows picture. Upon further research I noticed the follwing:

"NOTE: Some program installations that require a reboot, may be using the temp folder to store files needed to complete installation upon the reboot. (98lite is one) If so, just put a REM before the DELTREE /y c:\windows\temp\*.* > NUL line. After the installation, go back and remove the REM."

DOH!!!! Obviously I did not read the directions correctly as I should have before I entered the command. Is there any way to fix this. The computer sits at the large Windows picture and does not finish booting. Can I fix the Dos command? Thanks you very much for your assitance.

If you can get into real DOS mode you can use the edit command and edit the line that is referred, save it and than you can complete the procedure.

To get into DOS mode press F8 before the Windows splash screen and select DOS mode from the menu.
