I have a file called pagefile.sys on the C: of my Windows 2000 server. It is currently at 1.5 GB. Is this necessary? By the way, I have 1 GB of RAM. |

The swap file is necessary. What it does is it acts like 'virtual' memory. If for instance you were to load many programs at one time and run out of Physical ram memory the swap file or page file kicks in by acting as Ram. Data not being accessed at that time can be swapped over to the page file.
For Windows 2000 it's 1.5x Ram. Which is exactly 1.5GB, the size the page file should be in your case.
Adjusting the Page file (or Swap file as some may call it) doesn't tend to improve performance but decreasing it appears to improve boot time for Win2k somewhat. |
