Help.

I am running Windows 98.

The last few days I've developed a problem that seems to be getting worse.

Lines of qqqqqqqqqqqqq are automatically inserted into typed documents I create (This is a text file; I haven't tried it in Word). Even here I have to delete such lines that appear.

It affects e.g. Google (as well as other search engines or online forms) when I type words into the Search window.

If I try to rename a file the same thing happens. Lines of 'q's. Sometimes I cannot type the letter 'q' (this time it did). I hope this is making sense.

I haven't installed any additional programs although I did receive a threat qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqrecently (OK See? It just did it again) from a chat room participant that he would 'do something to my computer'.

I've done a Google search but no luck, or the terms I've used to describe the problem may be insufficient (or deficient).

I've also turned the keyboard upside down and shaken crumbs out thinking the key might be stuck. And tapped the key as well to loosen (?) it.

Thanks for your help in anticipation

Take a small flathead screwdriver and pop off the 'q' key. Make sure there isn't any soda, candy, or other sticky stuff. Is this only occurring with the letter 'q' or is it happening with other letters?

As Big Guy suggested clean it up or try it with a different keyboard. I have an HP Multimedia keyboard that does the same thing with the letter Z. Replaced it with a different keyboard and no more ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's. No pun intended.

Thanks.
It isn't happening with any other letters.
I popped off the 'q' key as you suggested. No sticky stuff there.
Actually ;-) because I live at my PC, my lovely wife threw an orange at me; it burst on the wall near my pc and some juice did land on the keyboard. I will take off a few other keys and check. BUT this domestic argument happened AFTER my 'q' problem started.
lol.Too Much Information??

Anyway, today I have not had any problem so maybe it's fixed.

Thanks again. Will be back if it reoccurs.

Lol, I hate it when the orange bursts all over the wall.
