Windows XP. P4 2.8 GHz. 512 MB RAM. 80 GB HDD.

When I turn the computer on, it puts up the splash screen and then runs through the blue bar scrolling and scrolling and scrolling. It never gets past this. If I hit the restart button, it will bring me to the boot up menu. If I choose Safe Mode, it will bring up the login screen, but when I type in my password, nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Ranier

Big Guy, Chkdsk might work for you if you have the XP cd handy so files can be replaced that are obviously corrupted or just flat out missing.
