Safe Mode is Microsoft's "diagnostic" graphical-user-interface. When you system boots up, do it reset itself, then automatically go into safe mode? If this happens, you need to press the F8 key when you see "Starting Windows 9x" in the upper left hand corner. This will bring up a menu of boot choices. You want to pick #2 (Create a Bootlog). After the system reboots on it's own, you then want to press the F8 key, and choose "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only". You now should be at a DOS prompt, and type "edit bootlog.txt". The very last file is the one that is causing your problems (I usually see video drivers cause this symptom). In this case, if you know what the file is, you can attempt to troubleshoot from here, otherwise, reply back and we shall try to help you. |
