I added a generic sound card and CD rom in a 486/66cpu , the drivers loaded correctly for the cd, but i get no sound from the card when I hook up the speakers. I also played around with the cabling and settings on the control panel, but I am totally stumped. Does win 95 have sound drivers on cd to activate thia generic card, or do I have to go to look up the specific drivers for this oddball 16 bit card. It also plays a cd when i hook upearphones to the cdrom front jack...

Go to www.windrivers.com

Go to beginner search link

Go to indentify product by picture

Find the photo of your sound chip and follow instructions

You will probrably get the drivers you need.

If it is an old generic sound card, you may have some fun finding drivers. It may work using SoundBlaster 8 bit drivers (remember those everyone?) But you always should use the correct drivers for the correct product. In my mind there is no such thing as a good generic driver!!!!!

Good luck
