How do I solve this problem to load windows intot he pent 166 computer, it says error, unable to control line 20? , xmas driver not installed, HMA not available /loading DOS low, then it says smart.drv cannot be loaded because of the previous lines not loaded. , How do I acess config.sys from DOS 5 and fix these conflicts?
Is this in the BIOS or in the autoexec bat that this prob exists and how do i fix it?

from a dos prompt, type edit; then enter. you'll use the "alt" key then the "f" key then the "o" key to get to your files. use the up and down arrows to get to the file in question and then hit the space bar to select it. then hit enter to open the file. make your changes. then hit "alt" "f" and then either "c" or "x" to close or exit to dos. then reboot.
this will work for the config.sys and the autoexec.bat files to check what's in there. heck, it will work for almost any file. you might also check any other file that you might think of that may be causing this. i would also check the bios for settings, too. but this seems to be a software problem. if you could post the contents of these, it would help. it would be easier to see what's going on. |
