Can't boot from floppy or hard drive: 1) bad floppy and bad hard drive 2) bad floppy drive and bad hard drive 3) bad cable/drive controller 4) bad cmos settings/vrom (possible virus) 5) power supply problems 6) mother board problems 7) bad memory Not necessarily in order of probability. My trouble shooting would go something like this: I would first try another floppy (write protected!), one that boots in another machine. I would check the cmos settings and record them. I might try resetting cmos to default values. I might try reloading the flash rom. Next I would open the case (power off) and 'wiggle' things around to re-establish good connections (metal tarnishes making connections go bad) I would check power supply voltages or swap out with a good supply. I would try good memory I would swap controller boards I would swap mother boards Good luck. -bz- |
