Subject: file recovering Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 20:29:17 +1000 From: pdudesin Newsgroups: aus.computers Can anybody please let me know whether there is a way of recovering a file from the floppy disk. My problem is that I've saved a word document on to floppy and can't seem to open it.The file is still there but every time I try to open it I get a message telling me it can't open the file and asking me to make sure that it has been saved as a "doc.file"which it has. Any advice would be appreciated Peter |

HI! First of all, DON'T try running SCANDISK or NDD on the floppy since that way you'll get poor chances restoring later. The best utility I've used is DISKTOOL.EXE from Norton Utilities 8.0 for DOS (Probably this util is available on the newer versions). It's a real magic . So get this util and run it in DOS mode. It fixes the low-level format of the diskette, while not touching the data. Don't worry about long file names since it doesn't modify the data. Also try reading the disk on the drive which saved the data, if you havn't so far. Yizhar |

Try going to start, run and type edit. Then select the file on the disk that you want and you might be able to view it. -CJ |
