Does anyone know where I can find info on an HP Colorado
T-1000 tape backup?...bought a used computer that
includes one but cannot get the tape cartridge
(a Travan-1) into the drive. I tried the HP site
but got no usefull info there. Win 98 recognizes the
drive and motor will run...if only I could get the
darn tape cartidge into the drive...anyone have one of
these that can give me some advice???

...Thanks for the replies...I managed to fix the problem...
turns out it was a mechanical problem with a small spring loaded
plunger that opens the tape access cover on the
cartridge as the tape is inserted into the drive.
The HP website eludes to this problem but is pretty vague
on what to do about it...I had to remove the drive from the pc
and take the circuit board off the top of the drive to get
at the internals...actually not very difficult at all...
four screws and three connectors...the little spring loaded
plunger that opens the tape access had come unseated from
its holder , so the access door on the tape cartridge was not
opening and jamming against the tape head as a result...it was
actually pretty easy to fix and no damage seems to
have been done to the tape head as the unit works fine now...
fortunately I had refrained
from trying to force the tape cartridge into the drive.
...Hope this helps, should anyone else encounter similar
problems.

are you saying that the tape cartridge will not go into the drive? i checked the hp site, but without further info, i can't help very much. if it can go into the drive, try reinstalling the software drivers, then make sure that win detects it in device manager, attempt a small backup. that's all i can suggest, for now.

oh, if it still doesn't work, try another tape, just to see if you have a bad cartidge.
