Has anyone encountered degraded performance in benchmarks (specifically disk) in WinSE? Any links to comparisons betweens the two Os's?

Thanks

i tried win98se. i found too late that due to design changes, that this doesn't work very well with via chipset motherboards. after i figured out how to load it anyway, i did notice that performance was slower. but since my hardware was affected by the design changes, this may, or may not be the case with an intel based board. there are currently people working on a way to get win98se working properly on this chipset. i am curious to see the result as i did like some of the new features. not all, though.

so you see, benchmarking is not always "real". there are varied configurations to set up a system which will degrade or improve the result. it doesn't matter what software is running. you could have the optimum setup, and it still will not be right until the hardware is at it's maximum compatiblity in configuration. this may mean changing memory, or video cards, for example, to get the premium. if you have the money and the time to spend, that is.

have fun!
