I want to know about how to determine which driver files I do not need to keep on my HD. When I remove Programs, I usually say "no to all" when asked to remove shared driver files that may not be used by other programs. Is there any way to find this out whenever I remove programs? |

the registry is a good place to start. you may need to know the company name, as well as the program, and possibly the clsid number to find what's connected to what. you do not want to delete a shared file if you need it for something else. therefore, in the registry, there's where you go. then you can delete your files after you determine what you can take out, and what you can leave in. you can also delete the non functioning associations to "cleanup" your registry. i suggest doing a lot of research or getting someone with a lot of knowledge to help unless you want to reinstall it as i have from mistakes made that make windows unuseable. "inside the windowsxx registry" is a good book which i use. gunter born (with two dots above the "u") wrote it. he's done a lot of research into how it works. |
