Here's the skinny. If I have the drivers installed for my SB Live Value sound card I get a whopping 17 frames per second score on a Forsaken benchmark I have. If I uninstall the drivers my frame rates rocket to 107fps. I know that the frame rates drop with the EAX sound format, but 90fps is unacceptable. Anybody have a clue? I am all out of ideas. I cannot even hope to play Forsaken on my old 150 MHz system, but I do play Descent 2 a lot and also have an SBLive card. I'm not sure this is applicable but maybe it will give you something to work with. I have to turn off the midi music for Descent 2 for some reason because A)it sounds like #$*@ for some reason. All notes are protracted and muddled together. B)when this happens it similarly drops my normally fabulous framerate in this game to something like 9 or so. I never had this problem before running an Ensoniq Soundscape, and have (for separate reasons) formatted the computer and reinstalled everything with no improvement. Overall, there seem to be some scattered reports all over in odd places that the SBLive drivers are a bit buggy yet. (The Linux ones definitely so, but are still declared beta) |
