I have an FIC VX-98 motherboard here that refuses to recognise a 3.5'' 1.44Mb floppy drive. I am using a known working floppy drive and floppy cable, and the FDD controller is enabled and correctly configured in the BIOS, but it just will not get past the message Floppy disk(s) fail (40) The cable is around the right way, I have checked and double checked everything but cannot get it to recognise the drive. I have even tried disabling the onboard controller and putting in an I/O controller with just the FDC ebabled and I still get the same message. It's got me baffled. I tried the FIC web site and they don't have an online manual for this motherboard. Nor do they have any BIOS updates for it. Any help would be really appreciated. |

PUT A KNOWN GOOD BOOTABLE FLOPPY DISK IN THE FLOPPY DRIVE AND TRY IT AGAIN. |

If its configured correctly in the BIO's, and one end or the other isnt backwards. Then possibly the cable isnt the correct one, or is defective. I've found that cables that work on one board wont allways work on another, use the cable that came with that board. Though not often, sometimes the floppy needs and adapter that converts it into a 5 and a quarter style plug. good luck....... |
