I know this is a little late in coming but, If you're still having trouble gaining access to the bios try this. Download a program called "KILLCMOS" it's easy to find and free. This program will reset all cmos settings to the default settings and clears the password. -place the .COM file in the root directory ( C:\ ) -go to the dos prompt and type the file name with the extension. -reboot and you should be sailing. I've had to do this recently and it worked fine. As far as your other problems...hope you're having some luck!!! |

Before you do the previous, you should try to get a copy of Win95. By reseting the cmos, the settings in the bios may no longer jive with the configured settings in Windows. So you may not be able to boot to windows. |

try running scandisk again in a dos prompt. ie: c:\scandisk c:\. then go into safe mode, run it again. this will get anything that the dos version didn't pick up. reboot. go back into safe mode and run defrag again. did you do anything else? was the defrag or scandisk halted for any reason? don't worry about the bootlog the ebios... thing is normal. not the problem. i'd also get your friend to tell you what the password is, or find out about clearing the password from him/her. i'd also get the cd's necessary for reinstallation from this person, too. if all this was set up by this person, and you bought it, you must get the software that goes with it. this person doesn't have the license for it anymore. it should be turned over to you. he\she isn't allowed to keep copies after selling a computer with an insatallation set up. |

If scandisk is reporting more and more errors, I would expect either a failing hardrive, or a virus. If no one admits putting the cmos on a password, I would lean toward the virus. |

could be, could also be corrupted hard drive. you ran a virus scan, i hope. but if it is, then you might as well just re-install the whole thing and get rid of the corruption, backup anything you want to keep, then before you even try to put it all back, run a virus scan on the whole lot of it. |
