cmos battery went dead replaced it with a new one now i can't keep the time right i set it in the cmos and in windows 98 turn off computer when i turn it back on the clock is wrong can someone help please thanks |

Your motherboard probably has a jumper that clears
cmos memory. Check to see that it's not enabled.
The real-time clock module on your motherboard may
also be either defective or not seated properly in
its mounting. |

the motherbord is a abit pdn5 i did not change anything when i replaced the battery |

There is one other possibility that I forgot to mention
before. The "new" battery may not be so new. I had
one about a year ago that started losing time (the
clock slowed down) after only about three weeks.
Evidently it had been on the shelf for so long that
it just lost its charge. I put in another new one
and the problem went away. BTW, there are a number
of updated drivers and bioses at Abit's site for
