I'm not quite sure what I did, but a few weeks ago my Windows 98 stopped shutting down. I get up to the "Please Wait...." message, but it just stays on that forever. It is annoying because then it wants to run scandisk every time I restart the computer. Also, if I want to just reboot, I have to reset it manually. Any help tracking down the source would be appreciated. I have tried reinstalling Win98 twice to no avail. |

Something isn't unloading when windows is trying to shut down. Before you shut down try pressing ctrl, alt, del and shutting down a program. Do this for every program in there except explorer and systray. If none of these work try shutting down the computer and pull everything except the video card and the floppy and hard drives. This way windows won't load the drivers. If it still won't shut down then try disabling fast shutdown. You do this by going run and typing "msconfig". Under the advanced button there will be a checkmark beside it. go ahead and remove it. You actually might want to try this before you try pulling any hardware. Well I hope this helps out. |

Run Norton WinDoctor. you have stray program that would let the system shutdown. |
