Anybory knows how to realocate the track zero. It's a 2 year 2.7GB drive and I don't want to lose it. Thanks. (Only track zero is bad on low level format) |

Maxtor drives are warranted for 3 years. Call them and get an RMA, they will ship a brand new unit as soon as they recieve the old one and confirm that you didn't run over it with a truck or drop it off a cliff. No reciept necessary. No kidding. See: http://www.maxtor.com/NoQuibble/index.html for more info. If you really need the data or you stole the drive and you don't want to return it, you can try using one or more of Maxtor's disk utilities, see: http://www.maxtor.com/library/main.html Maxtor utilities |

I'm pretty sure Dave's idea would be the best one to follow. I would definately try to send the drive back. It's kind of ironic you said "only track 0" the reason the drive needs returned is because the fat table and boot records are held on track 0. This is so it's in the same place no matter which hard drive you have and the pc can always find it. If the low level format can't fix the errors on track zero then it's only going to get worse from there. |
